CBT Anxiety

WHO IT’S FOR

Pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants

Anxiety is one of the most common conditions you see in pediatric primary care — and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the most evidence-backed treatment available. This course teaches you to confidently use CBT techniques with anxious children and teens, so you can intervene early and effectively in your own practice.
Faculty include both a mental health professional and a pediatric primary care clinician, bringing clinical depth and real-world relevance to every session.

Like all REACH training, this course is built on adult learning science. It has two components:

  • A full-day interactive workshop focused on building knowledge, skills, and confidence in CBT for youth anxiety.
  • Four follow-up case-based group calls — one hour each — where you present cases from your practice, get expert feedback, and put your learning to work.

Participants can earn up to 10.75 CME credits for both components.

COURSE GOALS

After this course, you’ll be able to:

Identify and understand the core components of youth anxiety.

Screen and assess for anxiety in primary care settings.

Apply key CBT techniques — including exposure, cognitive restructuring, and coping strategies — with anxious children and teens.

Develop and implement a treatment plan for anxious youth.

Recognize when to refer to specialty care.

YOUR Questions Answered

Everything you need to know before you register.

Who is this course designed for?

This course is built for pediatric primary care clinicians — pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants — who regularly see anxious children and teens and want practical, evidence-based tools to help them.

Do I need prior CBT experience?

No prior CBT training is required. The course is designed to build your skills from the ground up, with faculty drawn from both mental health and primary care backgrounds to support clinicians at all experience levels.

What will I be able to do after this?

You’ll be able to screen for anxiety, apply evidence-based CBT techniques with anxious children and teens, develop a treatment plan within your practice, and recognize when to refer to specialty care.

Is it really possible for me to use CBT skills in a 15-minute primary care appointment?

Yes, you can teach CBT skills to your patients in “bite-sized” chunks during brief appointments. The training focuses on realistic and practical skills that can be delivered in primary care settings.

How is the course structured?

The course has two components: a full-day interactive workshop focused on CBT skills for youth anxiety, followed by four one-hour group follow-up calls over which you present cases and receive expert coaching.

Is this course offered virtually?

Yes. Check current course dates for available formats.

How many CME credits will I earn?

Participants can earn up to 10.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, 10.75 ANCC contact hours, or 10.75 AAPA Category 1 CME credits by completing both the workshop and the follow-up calls.

How does this differ from the PPP?

The PPP is a comprehensive 3-day program covering the full range of pediatric mental health conditions. This course goes deep on one area — CBT for anxiety specifically — in a single focused day.

What CBT techniques will I learn?

The course covers core evidence-based CBT techniques for youth anxiety, including psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring, and exposure — practical methods you can begin applying with anxious patients immediately after the workshop.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations made 20 or more days before the course receive a 90% refund. Refunds decrease on a sliding scale closer to the course date. Transfers to another session are available within 12 months of registration.
